Introduction:
Biomass Charcoal Co-firing with Coal in existing high efficiency power plant
boilers is the nearest term low-cost biomass energy option. Transnational Technology
proposed co-firing biomass charcoal
produced using the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute high yield pressurized batch process. Yields of charcoal in laboratory and process development
equipment ranged from 35% to 50%. The HNEI high yield charcoal process was patented and is
being licensed for commercial development.
The following papers
by Jim Arcate discuss biomass power applications using biomass charcoal.
